Instagrammin'

Hey gals and maybe a few guys. I haven't been on here much. A lot has happened though, I see. Marriages, babies, divorces, moves, bummed up limbs. ~Silverstyle :((( ~

I have been crazy busy and am sort of coming out of the fog of overwork. So now I have a little more time to think about other things besides grading and costumes. (although I should probably be grading right now. :P)

I am a creativity junkie though. If it's not one thing it's something else. I finally got into Instagram. It's so much fun I can't stand it. Here are a few of the pictures I've Instagrammed lately.

Showing off my pedicure with my pedicat

Chillin' at a really really cool place where Elvis and Steve McQueen used to hang out

Neon sign at the roller rink. My hand is still bruised a week later. Oh well, it was fun!!

My favorite!! This is my daughter in her 1920's costume from her school play last year. I actually used the Camera + app which I really like.

Instagram seems to be used mostly by young people but I love it. It gives digital photos a great vintage quality. Are you using it?

Visible Monday-Blue Dress, White Hair, Red Lips

Hi again. I wore this dress before but the pictures were a little blurry. I wore this today to a meeting at FIDM. It's so comfortable and easy. Machine wash, hang dry, no wrinkles. This dress makes me understand a little bit, the love affair with polyester in the 1970's. This dress is from the early 1980's I would say. I got it at Goodwill.

Ta-da!!

Here's a little bit of a close-up of  the fabric. It's got black dots on it.

Wooh. Sexeh.

1950's Easy Refashion

I got to see some really cool things at FIDM today which I'll share with you another time. I did dress up, though, so let's see how that turned out.

The skirt was from a 1950's dress that I bought for $4.00 a while back. It was too small and shredding on top so I turned it into a skirt. I took out a piece so it wasn't so wide and bulky. The print is so cool and 50's! The lining was a leftover bit from another refashion that was a dress to an apron. Basically, since the hems were already done in the original garments, I just sewed the two skirt pieces together at the top and added elastic into a casing.

I'm really into getting more color for Summer. I'm not talking about tanning, although, if it wasn't so dangerous, it would probably be a really good idea. I mean color in my wardrobe and accessories. Most of my clothes tend to be in the neutral range, I've discovered. Have you been getting any more corals and turquoises and spearmints and such?

The Other F Word and Happy Father's Day

Just watched a great documentary on Showtime called The Other F Word.  It's about Punk Rockers who are now fathers. It's touching and funny and the clothes and hair are fantastic.

I know quite a few guys who are Punk Rock Dads. That's what happens when you're "this" age. So Happy Father's Day, Punk Rock Dads!! Take the tie your kids gave you, rip it up and put it back together with safety pins. Or try this cool DIY:

ps Yes, I've been gone a long time. My life has been super busy. But I'm planning a comeback. Miss you guys.

Yes I'm still alive!

I've just been busy and it's easy to get out of the blogging habit once you've been away and to focus on non priorities like making  a living and raising a child. Ha ha. That was a joke. Don't call the authorities.

I've been half promising to put up some stand-up so you can see what it is I do and I finally got a decent tape. Anyway, here it is. And don't worry, it's all clean in case you're goofing off at work. :)

Dress Up, Dress Down

I'm back to work from my break and will be working about 6 days a week and a couple of nights most weeks. Whew! I won't be posting every day as you may have noticed. I'm going to try to be more organized and prepared overall so the hectic schedule doesn't get to me like last time.

One of the nice things about my jobs is that it gives me a reason to dress up for a few hours. Today I taught a History of Costume class at FIDM.

Dress-(thrifted)
Jacket-(yard sale)
Tights-(Target)
Boots-(thrifted)
Necklace-(thrifted)

I have no idea what this pose is about. I started getting antsy and silly. I know, what? Me?

This dress is great because it's so incredibly versatile. If you need a dress you can do a lot with, get a sleeveless sheath in a neutral color. I have also worn this dress with a blouse under it which looks great. The jacket is one of my faves. I got it at a yard sale for  $1. Sweet!!!.

When I got home I wanted to be really comfortable so I put this on. The jacket is one of my Goodwill finds from last month but it's been too hot to wear it until now. We actually got some rain which is a freaking miracle out here (I know, it's rude to complain about having sunshine all the time but I love rain)

T-shirt-(thrifted)
jacket-(thrifted)
Jeans-(thrifted)
Shoes-(Marshalls)

Why, yes, I went to Harvard. Well, I didn't go there exactly. I did see Good Will Hunting like 30 times if that counts.

My daughter loves taking pictures of the top of my head.

I found this jacket in the men's section at Goodwill and I was so excited. It's exactly what I've been wanting. I looked at the label briefly and I thought it was from Hollister or something like that. Then I got home and looked more closely.

It's the real deal, yo!! Neat, huh? See that little curled up label on the bottom? It says Made In China. Does that seem weird to anyone else?

ps I realized I could link this up at Silverstyle's Trending Through th Decades-Boots Edition so I did. :)

Good Times

I had some good times the past few days. Friday I got to see my BFF who is only back for a few days from New York. I'm still getting used to my new IPhone but loving the Instagram app.

It can even make a new baby look like an old-timey baby. (That's her baby)

Saturday night my stand-up comedy students had their showcase. I went up at the end and did 10 minutes. It was a blast. I haven't performed in like 2 months except on my birthday. I really needed that.

Then I went to the other club (there are two clubs) because a friend was having a birthday show. They gave me 5 minutes there, too, and it was fantastic. I even got some nice compliments from a couple of young girls on my fashion style. I blame it all on my new skinny cargo pants.

This photo is a little fraudulent because I didn't perform in this room. I performed in the other room. (there are two rooms) The stage is a mess because the headliner that night does juggling and has props and things. Ha ha. It looks like my apartment. (That shirt is actually black by the way)

Top-(Nine and Co)
Sweater-(gift but I think from Target originally)
Old Navy pants-(Goodwill)
Sofft shoes-(Marshall's)
Necklaces-(vintage, FIDM Scholarship Store)
Sassiness-(EARNED!)
BTW Today is Monday and even though these are pics from another day I am going to try to get away with including them on Patti's Visible Monday link up. Check it out.
